Road Trip - See the Wild West

Deeper than the Grand Canyon, the Salmon River Canyon offers spectacular scenery and a bounty of wildlife viewing. The Salmon is the longest un-dammed river in the lower 48 states and has clear, warm water. Warren River Expeditions offers 6-day float trips beginning in June, when the water is fast and wild, and through August when the river is more tame and gentle. The night before the trip begins guests get a restful night’s sleep at the Salmon River Lodge, a beautiful backcountry lodge

Once on the river, Warren brings a variety of watercraft for guests to try if they wish. The choice of river craft includes hard-shell kayaks, inflatable kayaks, sit-on-top hard-shell kayaks, paddleboats, and large oar boats. The large oar boats are used to carry all the gear and any guests who just want to relax and enjoy the scenery. Even the most timid first-time rafter will gain enough confidence to try each craft at least once before the end of the trip.

Horses and other activities

When not on the water, this country has many more adventures to offer. There are many trails to hike that lead to old abandoned homesteads and gold mines. There are natural hot springs for soaking sore muscles after a hard day running the rapids. Sleep out under the stars on the river’s big sandy beaches. The crew members aren't only highly skilled guides, they're excellent camp cooks and they serve delicious meals that will satisfy the heartiest appetites.

Whether you’re racing down the Salmon River, strolling through Texas on horseback, or simply taking in the still “wild” nature, the American West has much in store, so hit the roads this summer with a spirit of adventure…just make sure you don’t leave during rush hour.
