British Airways Flight Cancellations; Detroit; Heathrow

British Airways Cancels Service Between Detroit, Heathrow

Due to the dismal economic decline of the Motor City, British Airways has announced to discontinue their daily flights offered between Detroit and London Heathrow as of March 30, 2008.

The change in British Airways' route follows the EU-US "Open Skies" aviation treaty. To offset the cancellation of Detroit flights, British Airways will increase flight frequencies from Heathrow to New York JFK, Seattle and Washington, and from Gatwick to Orlando.

Robert Boyle, British Airway's commercial director says, "We're taking advantage of the opportunities provided by Open Skies to further enhance our market leading network from London to the United States."

In the summer of 2008, 41 daily flights will fly to U.S. destinations.

Have questions? Booked a ticket for summer already? The British Airways website offers the following:

Customers who are in possession of a ticket purchased prior to Wednesday 19 September 2007, who are booked to travel on British Airways services between London Heathrow and Detroit for a travel date after 30 March 2008 are advised to contact their local British Airways office or their travel agent.
