2002 ICOTY Awards - Pick-Up Truck
Most Athletic - Chevy Avalanche

ROAD & TRAVEL's 2002 Most Athletic -- Chevy AvalancheVersatility is the goal for the 21st Century. Whether it's for work, business, or your personal life, being versatile and flexible is going to help make life easier. And speaking of making life easier, the new Chevy Avalanche is designed to do just that. Need to haul something long? Want to let the wind blow through your hair as you cruise down the highway? How about doing both at the same time? All this and more is easy to achieve with the Avalanche. The creative Convert-a-Cab system with the Midgate that folds completely or partially, depending on need, is unique to the pickup market, and an idea that is much loved by Avalanche owners.

When it comes to being athletic, the Avalanche is a gold medalist. Two powerful engines: a 5.3-liter V-8 and a 8.0-liter workhorse V-8 provide enough power and torque to push, pull or carry anything from boats to goats. Small touches add bonus points all over the truck, from the extra storage inside the bed rails to composite materials on the Midgate and tailgate for durability, to standard anti-lock brakes for safety. The Avalanche comes in a variety of flavors, from the tasty 1500 to the beefier 2500 to the North Face Edition, designed to please outdoor enthusiasts with special trim and a Sage Green exterior. Although the other trucks in the competition, the Cadillac EXT and GMC SIerra Denali, are worthy competitors, no one does a truck better than Chevrolet, and no one does a truck quite like the Avalanche.
