Road & Travel - Vehicle Crash Ratings

Crash Ratings & Car Safety Guide

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among Americans under 34 years old. Deaths of female drivers have increased during the past 20 years while male driver deaths have declined, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The reasons behind this trend? More women now are licensed than in the past. Also, women drive more miles and are more likely to be driving at night.

In continuing with our quest of keeping you safe behind the wheel, we've compiled statistics and reports on crash tests, safety ratings and other important criteria you should consider before purchasing a new car or truck. And when researching crash tests, keep in mind that frontal impacts accounted for 50 percent of passenger vehicle occupant deaths in 2001. Side impacts accounted for 30 percent.
