FORD NEW TRUCK MODEL GUIDE
Ford
builds the top seller for every truck
segment, compact, full-size and super-size.
The line's leader the full-size
F-150 year after year, out-paces
all other nameplates as the top-selling
vehicle in America. Trucks in Ford's 2008
collection are divided into light-duty
and heavy-duty models, with strong powertrains
on tap and unique variations available.
The Super Duty work trucks also emerge
with new designs and class-capping tow
ratings.
F-150
Ford's full-size and light-duty (half-ton)
F-150 trucks skew to many trims with V6
or V8 engines, and three different four-door,
cab styles. Two-wheel-drive (2WD) traction
is standard, but four-wheel-drive (4WD)
is available across the board. The powertrains
include a 4.6-liter Triton V8 pumping
248 horsepower, with a flexible-fuel E85
option for Ford's 300-horsepower 5.4-liter
Triton V8. There's also new gear available,
like a factory-installed Cargo Management
System for the truck box, or a Rearview
Camera System with a video display in
the rearview mirror of the truck's rearward
path. New trims like the Lariat Limited
and the XL SuperCrew add even more choices.
F-250
Super Duty
Super Duty is Ford's descriptive for its
super-sized work trucks. A new generation
of designs for 2008 brings refined chassis
with stronger suspensions and beefy brakes.
There are also options for three big engines
and overall boosted capacity with tow
ratings climbing way up to 24,500 pounds.
Both rear-powered 2WD and 4WD traction
modes apply to the F-250 and F-350 Super
Duty trucks with SuperCab and Crew Cab
variations. Ford's Triton 5.4-liter V8
produces 300 horsepower, while the Triton
V10 moves up to 362 horsepower. Ford's
Power Stroke Turbo Diesel 6.4-liter V8
musters 350 horspower, plus 650 lb-ft
of torque.
Ranger
Revised front bumpers on Ford's compact
trucks improve aerodynamics and fuel economy
for 2008. The Ranger trims as the L, XLT,
Sport and FX4 Off-Road, with cab styles
of a two-door regular cab plus a two-door
or four-door SuperCab. Three engines are
also available, including a 2.3-liter
four-pack base plant making 143 horsepower.
The 3.0-liter V6 rises to 148 horsepower,
while the 4.0-liter V6 scores 207 horsepower.
A tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS)
and SecuriLock anti-theft device are stock
items on all 2008 Rangers, along with
four-wheel anti-lock brake system (ABS)
and frontal air bags. The New Grabber
Orange exterior paint highlights Ranger's
bold style.
