Atlantic City Luck Without the Gamble

The New Jersey state government shut down might not affect you now... but it is causing much ado for those that count Atlantic City as one of their prime travel hot spots! Full of casinos, flashy entertainment, shopping and sandy beaches, Atlantic City is the perfect retreat for those who are looking to "go to it all," instead of the usual ho-hum "getting away from it all."

So, with casinos on the fritz for the time being, when better to explore everything else that this coastal city has to offer?

According to Jeffrey Vasser, director of the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority, visitors are enjoying a myriad of other resort and entertainment options. “In the last couple of years, billions of dollars have been invested in Atlantic City, resulting in the addition of non-casino attractions,” said Vasser. “Visitors now enjoy all of the spas, great shopping, showrooms, nightclubs, attractions and restaurants offered as an alternative to gambling.”

In no particular order, here are some activities that keep Atlantic City ‘Always Turned On.’

1. Enjoy Atlantic City’s Beach and Boardwalk. Recently named the Best Boardwalk by Reader’s Digest, the Atlantic City Boardwalk is the perfect place to stroll, ride or be pushed in a rolling chair while enjoying the sights and sounds of Atlantic City. Atlantic City also has some of the finest beaches in the country, with wide, white sand – the perfect place to pitch a blanket and umbrella or sun bathe in a beach chair. Remember: swim only where and when lifeguards are present. Atlantic City had the first professional lifeguard squad in history, and they’re still tops in keeping you safe.

2. From Atlantic City souvenirs to the latest designer trend, your shopping is in the bag in Atlantic City. Boardwalk shops feature great novelties including salt-water taffy, which is a treat to enjoy while here or to take home to family and friends. Atlantic City Outlets – The Walk features name brands at discount prices. The Quarter at Tropicana offers everything from unique stores to men and women’s designer clothing. Now open, The Pier at Caesars features two floors of must-have gifts and elite name brand stores.
