Brunch In the Big Apple

From chorizo con huevos to crepes and Chinese dim sum, brunch in the Big Apple takes diners on a whirlwind world tour. As the gateway to global gastronomy, New York City offers an incredible variety of restaurants (more than 18,000) serving sumptuous cuisine. And what better way to discover the rich diversity of dining than by enjoying a fabulous city brunch during your weekend stay? Here, we've listed some of the Big Apple's best hotspots for early-afternoon delicacies.

A Taste of Iberia
Travel to Lisbon by way of the West Village at Alfama Fine Portuguese Cuisine. Savor specialties such as bacalhau spiritual, a velvety gratin of salt cod with shrimp and cheese
(551 Hudson St., 212-645-2500, www.alfamarestaurant.com). Near Union Square, Barca 18 serves up Spanish tapas, sangria and more on Sundays. The menu features delicious dishes like chorizo con huevos-Yukon gold potatoes and chorizo hash with poached eggs and hollandaise (225 Park Ave. South, 212-533-2500, www.brguestinc.com).

C'est Bon

Say oui to brunch at Capsouto Freres Restaurant, which offers a three-course contemporary French prix fixe menu with yummy choices such as pâté de canard, boeuf bourguignon and blueberry crêpes
(451 Washington St., 212-966-4900, www.capsouotofreres.com). Near the theater district, the festive Chez Josephine celebrates the life of famous American chanteuse Josephine Baker. Every Sunday, diners can enjoy live piano performances and bistro fare including salade Nicoise, chicken paillard and Crème Brûlée (414 W. 42nd St., 212-594-1925, www.chezjosephine.com). The Sunday Champagne Brunch at Tocqueville features a selection of bubbly to accompany eggs and caviar, house-cured sturgeon and the other flavorful French and American dishes (1 E. 15th St., 212-647-1515, www.tocquevillerestaurant.com).

La Dolce Vita
If the mood calls for Italian, try Gusto Ristorante e Bar Americano. Housed in a 19th century landmark building in Greenwich Village, the eatery brings to life the aesthetics of Italian cinema of the fifties and sixties. During Saturday and Sunday brunch, the bar offers six different kinds of Bloody Marys, Prosecco cocktails and tasty plates such as Fagottini Quattro Formaggi, a four-cheese crepe and Pizza Occhio di Bue, grilled pizza with pancetta del pecorino
(60 Greenwich Ave., 212-924-8000, www.gustonyc.com).
