BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RUN-FLAT TIRES ON BMW Z4 ROADSTER

BMW Z4

BMW's new Z4 roadster, due in dealer showrooms this month, will ride on Bridgestone Potenza RE050 RFT run-flat leading edge technology tires.

BMW's Z4 2.5i base model comes with Bridgestone Potenza RE050× RFT run-flat in a 225/50R16 92V. The optional 17" tire package on the 2.5i includes the 225/45R17 91W Potenza RE050A× RFT run-flat.

The higher-performing, even more extensively equipped BMW Z4 3.0i model is equipped with 225/45R17 91W Potenza RE050A× RFT run-flat, with an optional 18" tire combination that includes the 225/40R18 88W Potenza RE050A× RFT in the front and the 255/35R18 90W Potenza RE050A× RFT in the rear.

"Bridgestone corporation engineers have worked closely with BMW engineers for the past three years on the development program for this application," said Michael Martini, vice president, Bridgestone/Firestone North American Consumer Tire OE Sales. "We're very pleased to showcase our run-flat technology on this prestigious roadster model."

Martini continued to say Bridgestone/Firestone has been supplying tires to BMW's Spartanburg, S.C. plant since 1999. In addition to the new Z4, Bridgestone brand tires are original equipment on the BMW X5, 3 Series, 7 Series and the ultra high performance Z8 models.

The Bridgestone Potenza RE050 RFT is a run-flat tire that continues to function safely up to a designated speed and distance after losing pressure. It is a self-supporting run-flat tire employing a special rubber sidewall reinforcement to carry the weight of the vehicle following deflation.

On the Z4, Bridgestone run-flat tires are an integral component of BMW's Run-Flat Combination (RFC) wheel-tire system. This system consists of self-supporting run-flat tires, specially developed Extended Hump wheel rims and a Flat Tire Monitor. The Extended Hump wheel does not require special mounting equipment.
