2007 MAZDA NEW CAR LINE-UP

MazdaThe line of Mazda, that "Zoom-Zoom" brand from Japan, expands dramatically in 2007 with two new souped-up sport-utility vehicles -- CX-7, a five-passenger wagon packing a turbo-charged engine, and CX-9, a seven-passenger SUV for the medium-size class. Sport-tuned vehicles from Mazda include best-seller MX-5 Miata roadster, the high-tech RX-8 sports coupe and Mazdaspeed6 plus Mazdaspeed3 turbo-charged sports sedans.

Mazda MX-5/Miata

Mazda's two-seat, open-top roadster is the perennial best-selling sports car. Driving the MX-5 is a strong 2.0-liter in-line four-cylinder engine with dual cams and variable intake valve timing. It produces 170 hp and combines with three different transmission choices -- a five-speed manual, six-speed manual or six-speed Sport automatic with shifter paddles on the steering wheel. The convertible top works manually with a single latch handle, although MX-5 adds the option of a removable hardtop with curvaceous rear window. A new edition with power-controlled retractable hardtop emerges in 2007.

This multi-activity vehicle -- a miniature minivan -- features a wedge-shaped body and a big cabin with room for six. There's a broad sliding door on each flank and a low floor deck for easy entry to rear quarters, plus a one-touch mechanism for second-tier seats to move away when accessing the third row. Powertrain is Mazda's aluminum 2.3-liter four-cylinder plant producing 157 hp. Transmissions include a five-speed manual or four-speed Sport automatic. Mazda5 trims out in Sport and Touring editions, with a new Grand Touring Package applying leather-trimmed heated seats and xenon high intensity discharge (HID) headlamps.

Mazda6

Mazda's sporty mid-size cars come in three styles -- Mazda6 the four-door sedan, Mazda6 5-Door as a five-door hatchback and Mazda6 Sport Wagon with five doors. Engines include a 2.3-liter four-cylinder with 160 hp or 3.0-liter V6 achieving 215 hp. A spacious cabin contains front buckets and a rear bench with split folding seatbacks. Standard safety equipment for all editions in 2007 increases to include an anti-lock brake system (ABS), traction control system (TCS) and side air bags for front seats plus curtain-style air bags for all outboard seats. Latest paint shades are Smokestone and Violet Gray.

Mazda Speed6
2007 Mazda Speed6

This is Mazda's quickest and most agile sports sedan. Based on Mazda6 sedan, it features a turbo-charged and inter-cooled engine with all-wheel-drive (AWD) traction plus standard dynamic stability control (DSC) program. A 2.3-liter DISI (Direct Injection Spark Ignition) turbo four-pack screams with 274 hp. The AWD device divides engine torque and routes half to front wheels and half to the rear.Body styling varies from Mazda6 with unique fascias front and rear, revamped forward fenders, curvy side sills and a tail spoiler. The cabin earns bolstered sport buckets, aluminum pedals and Bose audio equipment.

Mazda3

Compact cars from Mazda look muscular in the promise of spirited performance. And they bring optimal space in a five-seat cabin plus lively throttle action from two different four-cylinder engines. Mazda3 4-Door skews as a four-door notchback sedan with two trims packing a 150-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder plant (Mazda3i) or a 160-hp 2.3-liter upgrade (Mazda3s). Mazda3s 5-Door is a five-door hatchback with the 2.3-liter plant. Enhancements for 2007 include additional standard equipment such as a 12-volt powerpoint in the console and a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), with DSC and TCS optional for Touring or Grand Touring trim.

New zoom and zip goes to the Mazda3 line with the turbo-charged MazdaSpeed3 sports sedan. It features a compact and lightweight body design and a kicker engine stuffed below the hood. The turbo-charged and inter-cooled 2.3-liter DISC four-cylinder plant generates over 250 hp and teams with a six-speed manual transmission. Big-diameter four-wheel disc brakes go into this car, along with four-wheel ABS, EBD and DSC, plus 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels. The sport-tuned cockpit carries bolstered bucket seats up front with seat-mounted side air bags and curtain-style air bags tucking into headliners.

Mazda RX-8
2007 Mazda RX-8

This is a high-tech sports car packing a high-revving rotary engine. It's a two-door sports coupe with four-door functionality and seats for four. The engine is a twin-rotor plant displacing only 1.3 liters but making 238 hp with a six-speed manual gearbox or -- new for 2007 -- 212 hp with the optional six-speed automatic. Mazda loads RX-8 with equipment like power windows, cruise control and a six-speaker AM/FM/CD audio kit. The Sport Package includes xenon HID headlights, a Touring Package brings a moonroof and Bose audio gear, and the Grand Touring Package adds sand-tinted leather upholstery.

Sharp styling pattered after racy RX-8 applies to Mazda's five-door and five-seat crossover SUV. It possesses the spirit of a sports car and comes in three trims with front-wheel-drive (FWD) or AWD traction. Motivation comes from a turbo-charged and inter-cooled 2.3-liter DISI four-in-line spiked to 244 hp and tied to a six-speed Sport automatic transmission with manual shift mode. Stock features range from independent rear multi-link suspension and 18-inch alloy wheels to power controls for windows and door locks, ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), DSC and TCS, and side curtain-style air bags with roll-over sensors. A luxurious cabin features top-quality materials and options for premium gear like a Bose audio system with ten speakers and a ceiling-mounted DVD entertainment system for backseat riders. Standard safety equipment includes Roll Stability Control (RSC) and curtain-style side air bags for all three rows of seats.

Mazda B Series Truck

Compact trucks from Mazda repeat in 2007 with three cab configurations and three powertrain choices. The two-door Regular Cab works for all B2300 and several B3000 issues, with a four-door extended CabPlus for B3000, and CabPlus4 for some B3000 and all B4000 models with twin rear-hinged back doors. Top truck B4000 with four-wheel-drive (4WD) also has a husky six-pack that ripples with 207 hp. B2300 stocks a 2.3-liter four-in-line worth 140 hp and B3000 totes a 3.0-liter V6 at 150 hp. Special edition Dual Sport carries the raised suspension of a 4WD truck but rear-wheel-drive (RWD) format.
