2009 Vehicle Model Guide

2009 New HUMMER Model Guide

HummerThe original H1 Hummer, a civilized version of the military High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, or Hum-Vee, came from Hummer's parent company, AM General. But General Motors has marketing rights to the Hummer label, and at GM's Hummer Division, there are junior versions spawned from the H1 Alpha. Hummer's 2009 line encompasses the H2 SUV (sport utility vehicle) and H2 SUT (sport utility truck), plus a reduced-size H3 SUV and a V8-powered H3 Alpha SUV. New for 2009 is the H3T, a truck variation of the H3 SUV with a five-person crew cab and a 5-foot bed in back.

The H2 seems like a smaller version of the original H1 Alpha. Versions for 2009 pack a 6.2-liter V8 worth 393 hp and link to a six-speed automatic transmission. New for this engine is a calibration for FlexFuel capability to operate on E85 ethanol, gasoline or a blend of these fuels. Every H2 employs a full-time four-wheel-drive (4WD) system. H2's cabin gets front bucket seats, a three-place bench on the second row and a third bench for two. More amenities apply to 2009 models, like Bluetooth wireless phone connections, OnStar telecommunications and added touches of luxury.

2009 Hummer H2 SUTH2 SUT
This version of H2 functions as both wagon and truck. Where the SUV shows an extended roofline and wagon bay, the SUT clips the roof to form a truck bed four-by-three feet in size. Then the cabin's back wall functions as a door — it folds to fashion a generous extension of the truck box. Like the SUV, H2 the SUT has a 6.2-liter V8 now with FlexFuel capability and the six-speed automatic shifter. More amenities load in 2009, including XM satellite radio service and Rear Vision video imaging displayed on the rearview mirror.

2009 Hummer H3 SUVH3 SUV
This Hummer looks like a whittled H2. It's a mid-size model one step down in size from H2. The line includes a V8-powered model called H3 Alpha with a 5.3-liter V8 pumping 300 hp. H3 employs a 3.7-liter in-line-five for 242 hp through a five-speed manual transmission or four-speed automatic. For safety, StabiliTrak skid controls, OnStar telecommunications and curtain-style air bags are aboard, plus a four-wheel anti-lock brake system (ABS) with traction control system (TCS). New H3X is an off-road treatment with choices for suspension packages, plus bright roof crossbars and chrome wheels.

2009 Hummer H3TH3T SUT
Like the H2 SUT, new H3T is a truck version of the H3 SUV. It features a five-seat crew cab up front and a truck bed in back running five feet in length. Both H3T and H3T Alpha models are offered, using the same five-cylinder and V8 powertrains as the H3 and H3 Alpha SUVs. Lots of accessories work on H3T for customizing, like lockable storage boxes in the truck bed, an adjustable bike chock to mount bicycles or motorcycles, and a bed extender in back.
