2005 Entry Level Luxury Buyer's Guide

2005 Infiniti G35 Review

by Martha Hindes

INFINITI G35
2005 Infiniti G35

The G35 wasn't broken, but Infiniti decided to fix it anyway for 2005. Rather than needing to repair any problems, the Japanese auto maker strokes the good things to a new level of perfection on this two-year-old that already has won widespread accolades.

Performance improvements for this rear-drive, three-version sedan set hide under a sleeker, enhanced exterior, with new hood and trunk plus front and rear bumpers. Extended body color on the door sills blend into a smoother visual line. Dual circle taillights add punch, and an available rear spoiler anchors appearance and function. Inside, a redesigned instrument panel and console get real aluminum and available Rosewood trim. Sound is tweaked with Mp3 playback on the in-dash 6 CD changer for music geeks, or an available Bose premium sound system.

The G35 (and G35x all-wheel-drive version) grunts into action with authoritative 280 hp, 3.5 liter V-6 power, and 270 lb.-ft. of torque. The stick shift 6MT gets a horsepower boost to 298. Under it all, a revised, optional sport-tuned suspension rides on 18-inch tires with heftier brakes.

Plan on taking someone special in the bucket seat up front. A pair of friends in the rear get reclining seats for optimum comfort. A fifth can go along, but won't get the contoured, scooped seats of the outboard passengers. For more eye appeal and variety, Infiniti also offers these enhancements on a kicky, fully-equipped coupe in automatic and manual versions.
