Infiniti's full-size M luxury automobile has been around for two years now, long enough to establish its stylish presence and be ready for some frosting on the cake, so to speak. For the 2008 Infinity M35 and M45, Infiniti dishes up some advanced technology, safety firsts and freshened styling, with its signature louvered grille joining a low-slung front fascia anchored with sport lights.

The Infiniti M has championed the look of a luxury sedan with an aggressive, sporty nature. Now Infiniti adds technologies to improve that capability, while enhancing driving characteristics and boosting safety.

For the first time, the V-8 version gets Infiniti's intelligent all-wheel-drive system for a new M45x version. As the newest of the four trim levels, it joins the rear-drive M35, M35x with AWD and rear-drive M45. The rear drive models can add Rear Active Steer that helps maintain a luxury ride while augmenting handling characteristics.

In addition to Vehicle Dynamic Control, a new worldwide production first is the M's active lane departure system. A front camera mounted behind the windshield "reads" road lane markers and goes into action if a driver starts to drift without signaling with a turn indicator. If the driver fails to respond to the system's warning alerts, the vehicle will brake slightly to harmlessly guide it back into the driving lane. It's designed to prevent the kind of vehicle drift that causes most fatal accidents, according to Infiniti.

Inside, an upgraded Hard Drive navigation system combines 9.3 gigabyte music storage with available real time XM traffic radio. The interior gets a visual lift, with luminous gauges, gear-like rings, aluminum or African Rosewood trim, climate controlled seats, push button start and rear view monitor.

Pricing for the 3.5-liter V-6 powered M35 model starts at $43,350, and gets the best mileage at 16 city/23 highway mpg. The 4.5-liter V-8 powered M45 has a $49,700 entry fee and $1,300 gas guzzler penalty. Options, such as 18-inch wheels or $9,650 premium package can add up.
