5 Ways Hertz Has Women in Mind

When you think of women on the road, who do you think of? Thelma and Louise, zooming off into the sunset? The typical businesswoman living out of a suitcase and a rental car? Or the hapless Mrs. Griswald from National Lampoon's stuck in a car full of kids and chaos?

Hertz realizes that there really isn't a "typical" woman traveler out there and that women often have different needs and requests than their male counterparts on the road. Approximately 40% of business travelers are women, and they're also the primary decision makers when it comes to renting a car for leisure travel.

Traveling on the road shouldn't be a stressful experience-it should be a way to relax and enjoy the ride. If you're a woman, keep in mind that there are plenty of ways to make your trip a comfortable one:

  • Lost in the dark or day. There are alternatives to asking for directions late at night or having that queasy feeling in your stomach after you've missed your exit. Instead of hitting the panic button, rest assured that you can rely on Hertz NeverLost, a navigational system that lists thousands of destinations including spas, hotels, airports and restaurants.

  • Child seat laws. You wanted to buy your child the safest crib and stroller out there. And you know that safety is critical in the car, too. Before it was government mandated in 2002 for all car seats to be equipped with the LATCH seat system, Hertz had been using it in all of their cars. Up to 75% of child safety seats are improperly installed, according to AAA statistics. Hertz offers specially trained technicians to install the child car seats-there are three types of baby seats to fit children ranging from a few pounds to 80 pounds.

  • Exercise your options. While most men are content with wearing the same pair of shoes four days in a row, you have enough high heels to put the whole cast of Sex & The City to shame. Ladies lust for variety and that goes for rental cars, too. Distinguish yourself from the pack. In the mood for sporty and fast? Well, rent a Mustang or a Thunderbird. Want to hit the road like an A-lister? Rent a Jag. Thirsting for adventure? Go for a Land Rover. You'll feel more comfortable in a unique set of wheels to match your frame of mind.

  • Security and safety. So you've recently invested in a video security system to safeguard your apartment and are considering buying an attack dog to ward off thieves. When you're out on the road, it's even more important to protect yourself. Always make sure that the rental car facility's parking lot is well lit and that there is FREQUENT shuttle service to and from the airport-even at off hours. The best question to ask is, "How long will I have to wait for a shuttle bus, if my plan lands at 12:30 on a Thursday night?" At Hertz, shuttle buses run every five to ten minutes.

  • Rent local. No need to leave the comfort of your neighborhood in order to rent a car. Rent from a Hertz Local Edition facility, which is often cheaper than renting on-airport. To find the Hertz Local Edition facility closest to you, go to www.hertz.com
