SPAM,
Baby, SPAM!
New Museum Documents Luncheon Meat's
History
Has
there ever been a luncheon meat so abused as SPAM? I certainly know
I don't hear many jokes about pimento loaf or sliced honey turkey. But
SPAM, well, it's a different story -- and now it even has its own museum.
The
new 16,500 square-foot SPAM Museum, which opened last September in Austin,
Minn., offers a variety of interactive and educational games, fun exhibits
and remarkable video presentations.
Visitors
can discover how SPAM acquired its name (hint: it was through a contest)
and see how the global community has embraced the canned meat (hint:
SPAM is considered a gourmet treat in South Korea).
And the
best part about the SPAM Museum - participating in a simulated SPAM
production line, completel with hairnets and rubber gloves!
Of course,
what would a museum be without a gift shop? The SPAM Museum is definitely
no exception -- in its shop, you can buy unique SPAM merchandise and
more.
For more
information, visit the Spam
website.
