Hiker on Ruffner Mountain
Hike Ruffner Mountain's Trails

Birmingham
Ruffner Mountain's hiking trails range in length from ½ mile to 5 miles. On the Quarry Trail are remnants of Ruffner's mining history. This trail will lead to Gray Fox Gap, from which one can either enter the quarry or climb to the spectacular Hawk's View Overlook. In the Quarry, fossils dating back 350 million years may be found. Other trails include the Marian Harnach Nature Trail, which runs along the lower slopes of the mountain; the Geology Trail, whose rock formations include Turtle Rock; and the Trillium Trail, named for the flowers which bloom there in the Spring. www.bham.net
