TRUCKS |
Ford
builds the top seller for every truck segment
- compact, full-size and super-size. The line's
leader - full-size F-150 - year after year out-paces
all other nameplates, car or truck, to rank as
top-selling vehicle in America. Trucks in Ford's
2006 collection divide into light-duty and heavy-duty
models with strong powertrains on tap and unique
variations available, like the new Harley-Davidson
package for F-150 dressed in Mono-tone Black body
paint and rolling on 22-inch chrome wheels.

F-150 | Ford's full-size and light-duty (half-ton) F-150 trucks skew to many trims with V6 or V8 power and three different four-door cab styles. Ford upgrades the F-150 line this year with new equipment options like Sirius satellite radio service. A limited-edition Harley-Davidson F-150 SuperCab shows up in Monotone Black with chrome-accented side tubes and those huge wheels. Customizing a F-150 is easier in 2006, in fact, due to new packages like the Chrome Package for XLT or Lariat, or a 20-inch wheel kit for FX4, XLT, Lariat and King Ranch.
A standard-length cargo box will be available for SuperCrew models later in 2006, plus a flexible-fuel 5.4-liter Triton V8. Two-wheel-drive (2WD) traction is standard but four-wheel-drive (4WD) is available across the board. Powertrains begin with a 4.2-liter V6 rated at 202 hp. The optional 4.6-liter V8 delivers 231 hp, and a 5.4-liter V8 blasts to 300 hp.

Super Duty Trucks | Super Duty is Ford's descriptive for super-size work trucks. In 2006 they deploy as F-250 Super Duty (three-quarter ton) and F-350 Super Duty (one-ton). These trucks use gasoline engines in V8 and V10 sizes or a torque-king turbo-diesel V8. Ford's 5.4-liter V8 base plant produces 300 hp. A 6.8-liter V10 rises to 362 hp as the 6.0-liter V8 Power Stroke diesel hits 325 hp with 570 lb-ft of torque. GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) for F-250 climbs to 10000 pounds, but F-350 begins at 10700 pounds and ranges through options to 13000 pounds.
Super Duty trucks appear in three styles - Regular
Cab, SuperCab or Crew Cab - for trims of XL, XLT
and Lariat. More equipment adds to the Lariat
Luxury Package, like an Amarillo Package for Lariat
Crew Cab sparks with Blazing Yellow paint, polished-aluminum
wheels and brushed aluminum door trim.

Ranger | Best-seller compact truck for 18 years now is Ford's Ranger. For 2006, Ranger shows revamped sheetmetal with an aggressive prow and rugged fender flares on flanks. In all, Ranger splits this year into trims of XL, STX, XLT, Sport, FX4 and FX4 Level II, with cab styles of two-door Regular Cab plus two-door or four-door SuperCab. A seven-foot cargo box is available on XL and XLT Regular Cab models. With four-door SuperCab and deluxe XLT trim, the FX4 Level II adds 4WD equipment like Bilstein off-road shocks, a Torsen limited-slip rear differential, plus undercarriage skid plates, tow hooks and forged aluminum wheels. Three engines work on Ranger in 2006. A 2.3-liter four-pack base plant makes 143 hp. A 3.0-liter V6 rises to 148 hp but the 4.0-liter V6 scores 207 hp. New paint chips for Ranger in 2006 include Screaming Yellow Clearcoat and Redfire Clearcoat Metallic.
