After
spending time in its stellar Odyssey minivan, we have to ask: can Honda do no
wrong? Ever since its introduction, it has maintained one of the best overall
balances of quality, power, safety, features and space of any vehicle on the road,
let alone minivans. For 2003, it's poised to continue that momentum.
First of all, there's more space inside than every minivan save the Chrysler/Dodge
minivans and the Chevrolet Astro/GMC Safari. Feature content is quite high, with
he base LX trim level delivering everything you would ever need in a minivan,
and the EX delivering a number of extras such as power sliding doors, automatic
climate control, heated leather seats and available DVD entertainment as well
as GPS navigation systems. All Odysseys features a "disappearing" third
row seat, as well as important safety features like four-wheel anti-lock disc
brakes, side airbags and an energy-absorbing structure that helped Honda earn
a quadruple five-star crash test rating.
Powering the Odyssey is a class-leading,
240-hp V-6 that is as powerful as it is quiet, mated as it is to a seamless five-speed
automatic transmission. The suspension is fully independent, which translates
into a delightfully smooth ride with good body control to keep the kids from getting
carsick on twisty roads.
